YUKIKOMIZUTANI
《 SUPERMARKET 》1620×3336mm, Acrylic on canvas, 2025
YUKIKOMIZUTANI is pleased to present LIFE, a solo exhibition by Seiji Matsumoto, on view from Saturday, July 26 toSaturday, August 30, 2025. This will be Matsumoto’s second solo exhibition at YUKIKOMIZUTANI. Alongside new
paintings and drawings, the show will feature works created in collaboration with Osaka University of Arts, incorporatingcutting-edge technology. This new body of work presents an interactive experience in which elements of the artworkrespond to viewers’ movements, offering a fresh and immersive glimpse into Matsumotoʼs unique worldview.
Please note: The gallery will be closed for summer holidays from August 10 to August 18, 2025.
The exhibition is composed of two distinct spaces: one inspired by the artistʼs former life in New York, and the other byhis current lifestyle in the mountainous countryside of Nagano, where he now maintains his studio. Characters such as “ANDY,” a rat motif Matsumoto created during his time in New York, and various animals native to Naganoʼs rich naturalenvironment, appear throughout the works. ANDY, one of Matsumotoʼs signature characters, is notable for having notail—carrying the message, “There is no need for everyone to be the same.”
We warmly invite visitors of all ages to experience the whimsical and thoughtful world of Seiji Matsumoto.
『LIFE』
From Osaka, Tokyo, and New York to the great outdoors of Nagano—
Through this journey, Iʼve transformed the shared experiences and new realizations found in seemingly opposite ways oflife into characters.
Life in the city, filled with energy, countless encounters, and the ever-present pulse of technological advancement. The thrill and stimulation of a constantly shifting urban landscape, and the emptiness that sometimes lingers behind it.
Life in the countryside, where the smallest seasonal changes stir the heart, and the warmth of human connection feels closer. A quiet life surrounded by nature brings deep healing, and at times, awe in the face of its vastness.
Through my work, I hope to offer a moment to pause and reflect on the everyday lives we often overlook.
