Cross Talk: Takayuki Hayashi × Taro Maruyama
We are pleased to announce a cross talk event between Takayuki Hayashi and Taro Maruyama, to be held on Saturday, November 8, during the exhibition “Expanded Rooftop and the Map of Vital Energy” by Taro Maruyama at YUKIKOMIZUTANI.
Following the talk, there will be a casual gathering where attendees can continue the conversation. We look forward to your participation.

Takayuki Hayashi
Art critic and researcher of art theory. His primary field of research focuses on postwar and contemporary art, especially in the United States from the latter half of the 20th century.
Born in 1969. Withdrew from the doctoral program at Tokyo University of the Arts in 1997 after completing coursework. Currently Professor at the Department of Aesthetics and Art History, Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts.
In addition to his academic work, Hayashi is involved in interdisciplinary projects such as the “Dialogues on Sculpture” series with Musashino Art University.
His major publications include Warhol: Great Masters of Western Painting 9 (2006); co-author of Unknown Sculptures: The Viewing Volume (2024); co-translator of A History of Sculpture: From the Prehistoric to the Present (2021) and Art Since 1900: The Complete Visual Guide (2019); and supervising translator of The Life of Michelangelo Buonarroti (2020).
Taro Maruyama
Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1991. Completed the Doctoral Program in Sculpture at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2021.
Recent exhibitions include the group exhibition “See you! Pavlov!” (GENE GALLERY, Shanghai, 2025); solo exhibition “The Flute and the Midline Beyond the Sky” (1-11-6A Warehouse, Tokyo, 2024); group exhibition “Eudaemonia” (Gallery Common, Tokyo, 2024); solo exhibition “Demonic Save Point” (TAKU SOMETANI GALLERY, Tokyo, 2023); and “Space-Time Community” (Wenzhou Times Art Museum, Wenzhou, China, 2022).
